- 5.0dependable, reliable the best little car.By Jeff | on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 i have a 2002 Protege, it has been one of the most dependable cars i have owned. It is a fun little car to get around town because of its size. It has a zippy 2.0 and can fit mostly anyway when looking for parking. With regular maintenance and upkeep i am hoping to easily get another 100,000 from this vehicle.…
- 5.0I bought this car with 150,000 on itBy Walkonwater2013 | on Friday, March 08, 2013 I have done nothing to this car except brakes the motor is as quite as the day I purchased it.…
- 5.0LOVE my '01 Protege ESBy Arkie | on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 I bought my 2001 Protege ES (2.0L engine, 5 speed manual transmission) used in 2002 with 13K miles. Now, 8 years later, at 90K miles, I love it as much as I did the day I bought it. It is a great "second" car for our family of 4 (2 kids in elementary school). The handling and performance are fantastic for this class. I'm just beginning to think about replacing "Little Red," but after test-driving the cars in today's similar class, I'm disappointed - almost none have the handling and performance I've come to expect in my Protege. (Still like the manual Mazda3, though!) Two minor problems with my '01 Protoge within the last year: (1) ABS system went out; however, the brakes still work fine (cost to repair ABS system was prohibitive, and this was my first ABS auto, so I opted to forego); (2) speedometer went out for no apparent reason. I have had NO other issues with this car. Consumer Reports still lists the 2001 Protege as a "Reliable Vehicle" used car in the $4000-$6000 class. I concur!…
